How to get here?

To reach the VA Eastern Shore, you have several convenient options.

If you’re traveling by car, you can take the scenic Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (CBBT) from the Virginia Beach area. This impressive 17.6-mile-long engineering marvel connects the Eastern Shore to the rest of Virginia. Witness this delightful drive with unparalleled views of the bay.

Alternatively, you can enter the Eastern Shore from the north. Simply use the US-13 highway, which crosses the state border from Maryland.

For those who prefer flying, the Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport (SBY) in Maryland is the closest regional airport. Upon arrival, you can rent a car and take a short drive south. It’s about a 30-minute drive to the VA state line.

Finally, the Norfolk International Airport (ORF) in Virginia provides another option. The distance from the airport to the southern point of the Eastern Shore in Virginia is 30 miles. This includes crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.

Annual Attractions & Events

Without a doubt, the biggest event of the year is the annual Chincoteague Pony Swim, along with the Chincoteague Volunteer Firemen’s Carnival. It is a month-long celebration held each July that features several kid’s rides, local food, and lots of fun.

However, there is a lot going on here. So be sure to check in frequently as we cover events throughout the year.
