Melfa is situated approximately 75 miles south of Salisbury, Maryland, and about 100 miles north of Norfolk, Virginia.
When you’re in Melfa, Chincoteague Island is a 40-minute drive to the north, while Onancock and Onley are only 5 miles away, heading north as well.
If you are heading south, Cape Charles and Cheriton are only a 30-minute drive away.
How to get there
From the MD/VA state line in New Church, VA, continue on US13 south for 30 miles or 40 minutes. You will see signs on both sides of the highway for Melfa points of interest.
Note – As you travel along US13 on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, the speed limit will often vary from 45 mph to 55 mph.
If you are heading north from the local part of the peninsula, the US13 is what you will be using as well.
History

You can visit a number of interesting sites including Parramore Island, part of The Nature Conservancy’s Virginia Coast Reserve. It’s an uninhabited Atlantic barrier island with undisturbed beach and dune systems. Keep in mind it can only be reached by boat and access is restricted, arranged only with The Nature Conservancy.
