Where is Cape Charles VA?

Cape Charles is situated on the southern tip of the Delmarva Peninsula, along the western side of the Chesapeake Bay. It is just 9 miles south of the county seat in historical Eastville VA.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, which connects Virginia’s Eastern Shore to the Virginia mainland, is approximately 26 miles (42 kilometers) south of Cape Charles. To get there, you would drive south on US-13, which is the main highway on the Eastern Shore.

Chincoteague, another popular destination on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, is about 60 miles (97 kilometers) northeast of Cape Charles. To get there, head north on US-13 and then take VA-175 east to Chincoteague Island.

How to Get There

To reach Cape Charles, Virginia, from both the north and south, you’ll primarily use US Route 13, which runs along the length of the Delmarva Peninsula. Here are directions for each approach:

From the North:

  1. Travel south on US Route 13, which will take you through the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia.
  2. Once you’re in Virginia, continue south on US Route 13 for about 60 miles until you reach the town of Cheriton.
  3. At the traffic light, turn right onto VA Route 184 (Stone Road) and head east for about 5 miles.
  4. Turn left onto Fig Street, which turns into Mason Avenue. This will lead you directly into the heart of Cape Charles.

From the South:

  1. Travel north on US Route 13, passing through Virginia Beach and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (toll required).
  2. After crossing the bridge-tunnel, which is 17.6 miles long, continue north on US Route 13 for about 10 miles.
  3. Turn left onto VA Route 184 (Stone Road) and head east for roughly 5 miles.
  4. Turn left onto Fig Street, which turns into Mason Avenue. This will lead you directly into the heart of Cape Charles.
